Crystal Palace: Karen Moran

Karen Moran (pictured right) writes: “I have lived in Crystal Palace for 23 years and I’m proud to be part of its history and social diversity. We have a thriving business community and a park that’s a local treasure. There is a need for public open space and nowhere is this more evident than Crystal Palace Park. Any development in this Grade 2* Listed park should be minimal, striving to ensure that every local resident will have their say in what happens to their park.

If elected I will work with Mayor Boris Johnson, LDA and Bromley council to make sure that improvements will be made without destroying valuable parkland. I serve on the Park Working Group committee, so I’m regularly in dialogue with all members of local government to state the case for the park.

We also have another great asset and that is the National Sports Centre, which presents young people with a chance to excel in their chosen sport. Re-opened last year, its £17 million expenditure has been well spent on brand new facilities to bring the Centre up to Olympic standards, but given all this, funding is still needed to regenerate parts of the park to bring it back to its former glory.
